I am delighted to welcome you to Queensway Specialist School. We are a split-site school that caters for children and young people on the Autistic Spectrum (Queensway North), and for those with social, emotional and mental health difficulties (Queensway South). All of our students are supported by an EHCP and our class sizes average around 7-9. Thanks to our smaller learning environment, we are able to offer a personalised learning experience. Our mixed-age classes enable us to offer a bespoke provision according to the student’s individual needs and abilities in which they are able to thrive academically, emotionally and socially.
At Queensway, we pride ourselves on our positive relationships with families and professionals. This helps build a cohesive support network, ensuring that each child is given the tools to reach their potential and have a happy and successful future. We offer a safe, fully-inclusive, nurturing environment that offers a sense of belonging to each child. Our vision is to help our students overcome adversity, building resilience and confidence within a safe, inclusive, yet challenging environment.
We offer an ever-expanding selection of subjects; both vocational and to GCSE level and have a focus on a therapeutic approach to learning which helps our students overcome both social and academic barriers. Our curriculum is designed to reignite their thirst for learning by catering for individual needs, interests and talents so that we can secure each young person a relevant career path. We are always looking to expand our offer in response to our students’ needs and we are particularly proud of our new hair and beauty salon and motor vehicle provision. Our aim is to find each child’s individual talent and nurture that so that they can become, skilled, happy, independent and confident learners.
Through our creative curriculum offer we are also able to address students communication, interaction, social and emotional needs. At Queensway, we understand that providing personal and social development opportunities are intrinsic to the curriculum. We have a focus of developing out-of-classroom learning experiences which enhance our curriculum offer and, at the same time, also encourage the development of essential life skills. Alongside this, our students have access to on-site counselling and SEMH support which compliments our trauma-aware approach to behaviours of concern and our whole school emotional coaching methods.
We have an exceptional Governing Body who have a wealth of experience, particularly in special education and they offer invaluable support to the school community. This is an exciting time to be a part of Queensway School on our journey to becoming a 'shining light' in specialist provision.
